Superannuation guarantee in Australia (2026–27)

Superannuation is money your employer pays into a retirement fund on top of your wages. It is not part of your take-home pay, but it is part of what you earn.

How much super should I get?

The super guarantee rate is 12% of your ordinary time earnings from 1 July 2025. On a $90,000 salary that is $10,800 a year paid into your fund by your employer.

Since 1 July 2026 employers must pay super at the same time as wages (Payday Super), so contributions should arrive more regularly than quarterly.

Is super included in my salary?

Check your contract. "$100,000 plus super" means super is extra. "$112,000 package" or "total remuneration" usually includes super, so the cash salary is lower. Tick "My pay includes super" in the calculator to back it out.

Is super taxed?

Employer contributions are taxed at 15% inside the fund, which is usually lower than your marginal rate. Concessional contributions are capped each year, so high earners and people who also salary sacrifice should check their cap.

Try it with your own numbers in the take home pay calculator. This is general information, not tax advice.
